Katy Irving reflects on 6 months at Envireau Water

February 1, 2024

Katy Irving joined our team last summer, and we can’t believe it has been 6 months already! Let’s take a look at what she has been getting up to so far…

Before progressing her career as part of our Scotland Office in July 2023 as a Graduate Hydrogeologist, Katy completed a BSc in Geology from the University of Glasgow, before specialising in Hydrogeology during her MSc at the University of Strathclyde.

It has been a busy 6 months and Katy has already gained valuable experience across several industries, namely Quarrying, Water Resources and Construction, with a lot of her experience to date focusing on the Distilling Industry. Here, she has had the chance to work on Water Vulnerability Projects across several distilleries on Islay by supporting in the assessment of the resilience of their water supplies under changing climate conditions.

Away from the office, Katy has also had the opportunity to carry out site visits across England and Scotland, where she has had the chance to put her skills into practice whilst undertaking water quality sampling and water level management as part of borehole monitoring.

We asked Katy to reflect on her first 6 months with us; here’s what she had to say:

“I’ve really enjoyed my time at Envireau Water so far and being able to build on my technical knowledge and skills! I have been getting involved in interesting problem solving both out on site and across our offices and have loved the opportunity to meet and build relationships with many of our regular clients and contractors, as well as the rest of the Envireau team.

The team at Envireau Water have been very encouraging during my first 6 months here and I have really appreciated the individual guidance and support provided. Everyone has been attentive to my goals and interests which has allowed me to gain many new learning opportunities within a short space of time. It has been a great start to my career here and I am excited to see what’s in store for me in 2024.”

Envireau Water’s Principal Hydrogeologist, Chris Woodhouse, added:

“I have thoroughly enjoyed supporting Katy during her first 6 months with us and she is a real asset to the team. It has been a pleasure watching her progress and we can’t wait to continue to support her as she continues to build her technical abilities.”

Here at Envireau Water, we offer more than just a job. We provide a warm environment within a small, friendly team to really help you kickstart your career and help you to grow both personally and professionally. With a hybrid working pattern available, and a mix of office-based and site work, no two days are the same.

The whole team are thrilled at Katy’s development, and with 3 more Graduates having joined us last summer, you could be next!

Sound exciting? You’re in luck! A graduate role similar to Katy’s is available.
