This week Rebecca and Eleanor begin their eight-week course on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) and how these can contribute to delivering sustainable land and water management within urban and rural areas.
NBS are changes that support and improve nature in response to societal challenges. These are based on the knowledge that by creating a healthy and balanced ecosystem, human wellness will be improved due to the range of services we depend on from that ecosystem.
Examples of Nature-Based Solutions
Restoring wetlands within catchment areas can manage water supplies and help protect built environments from flooding and soil erosion.
Creating green roofs and walls and planting trees can capture and intercept rain and floodwater and improve mental health.
Coastal habitat restoration can protect infrastructure from storm events and erosion.
