We Have Good News For Irrigation Users

March 1, 2022

We’ve all seen plenty of rain these last few weeks, but some of you may be wondering, has it been enough to support us through the irrigation season? We have been keeping an eye on things here at Envireau Water and so have the Environment Agency; the initial prospects for irrigation are in!

Across England, the irrigation prospects for 2022 are looking good following the recent wetter weather in February. River flows that were ‘normal’ or ‘lower than average’ in January have now substantially increased, causing flooding in some parts of the country. Groundwater has also followed suit and has been rising steadily throughout the month. For detailed irrigation prospects in your area, take a read of the Environment Agency’s document for local area irrigation prospects.

Looking ahead

We are becoming accustomed to the fact that our weather conditions are highly changeable and as a result, it is important to be alert to these changes. While the Environment Agency does not currently predict any major irrigation issues, being resilient to unknown weather factors is always beneficial. If you are looking for ways to minimise business impacts, consider these actions:

  • Check your licence conditions to ensure that the quantities and timings are correct.
  • Check that your meters are working and that you have a new record sheet set up. Ideally, you should record the readings in a spreadsheet to make electronic submission easy.
  • Check your entire irrigation system. Leaks, pressures, pumps, and meters.

What does our expert, Tamsin Morey, Principal Water Resources Specialist have to say on the prospects…

“Irrigation across England is looking good for the next few months, and it is now, without stress, that you can make sure you are resilient to any unknown weather factors.”
